I've lived in Hamilton for over three years now, yet until today I hadn't discovered the gem that is the Hamilton Gardens.
There are an incredible variety of gardens from different national origins, from traditional Italian, to Japanese contemplation gardens and many more. I felt as if I were being transported to a different country and era as I walked into each new garden, although it sounds cheesy it was an almost surreal experience!

There are so many nooks and crannies to explore, with exciting new discoveries around each corner. Each garden not only takes you to a completely different place, but also changes your mood dramatically with it’s carefully designed architecture, features and planting.
As I explored the gardens I felt as excited as a little kid, wondering what mystical land lay around the next corner. Judging by this, real kids would definitely enjoy the gardens too!

Although my friend and I initially went there for a walk to get exercise, I don’t think we burned any calories as we wandered through at a leisurely pace, soaking up all the gorgeous sights. There is however a good track for running out the back of the gardens, in a more open space with a few hills that are sure to get the legs burning!
Guys, for the perfect date pack a picnic and take your loved one for a romantic walk through the many gardens on offer, then down to the rivers edge to enjoy the scenery. There’s a lovely little secluded pebble beach which will be a great spot for a swim on those hot summer days that are just around the corner.
Whether you’re a garden enthusiast or not, I now know that the Hamilton Gardens are a must. What a fantastic, free activity for any time of year, one I will definitely be making the most of more often!
