(Yes okay I stole the title from the Telecom ad... I couldn't resist.)
'The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago; the next best time is now.'
Do something today that, in 20 years, you’ll thank yourself for.
I think the biggest misconception about starting a business, a page, a blog, or even just a new venture is that it will take off overnight when you release it. Sure you get a good amount of followers and interest when you first make your business known, but sadly only a small percentage of businesses take off in those initial stages.
So much research has gone into how to make businesses take off overnight, and how to attract fans, followers and customers. Many people spend thousands of dollars promoting their content, paying people to endorse it, and paying for advertising in the hope that their business will take off immediately.
I think the most natural way for a business to start is overtime, with organic growth. In this manner you create a well rounded, long lasting brand image that people have an affiliation with over a long period of time, rather than a fad or a craze.
I’ve started Little Felton as an avenue and a brand to develop over time. Starting this blog keeps me on my toes, constantly experimenting with what content to post, what projects to start and what opportunities to explore. My brand will grow and develop with me over a long period of time. It won’t take off straight away, in fact I’ve currently only got 170 followers on Facebook, but overtime I hope that it will build momentum.
And long term, these 170 followers will be the original people who supported me from the beginning, and they’ll have a story to tell when I’ve reached thousands of followers!
This is just the beginning of something much bigger, who knows where it will go, but I’ve started. What are you going to do today that you’ll thank yourself for in 20 years time?
Nicky
