Mum made a whirlwind trip to the Gold Coast this weekend for a seminar, and picked me up a whole lot of Australian magazines on the way home – she knows me far too well!

What better planning on the weathers part, that it would pour with rain the day she got back so I could simply sit in bed and sip tea whilst I peruse the new magazines, ‘ooing’ and ‘aaahing’ over the gorgeous goodies, inspirational people, and placed I’d love to visit.

‘Peppermint’ is all about style, sustainability and substance. A beautiful, modern publication based around sustainable produce and wholesome living, but aimed at a young professional woman. It’s really got me thinking how many people out there who are socially and environmentally conscious, and how the world is changing in this way.

The fact that we have whole publications dedicated to a target audience who has a conscience, and who cares about where the products they buy come from, and the way that the food they eat is produces, shows an emergence of a very conscious group of people.

Australia seems to be doing a fantastic job of making sustainability a trendy and fashionable thing. The cafes are all going back to being organic and raw, start up companies are building their strategies around helping people and corporate social responsibility, and consumers are becoming more selective as to where they shop, doing their homework on companies.

Here in New Zealand we can start to see this kind of emergence, however as per usual it’s taking us a little longer to catch on. In many cases it’s still considered to be quite ‘hippy’ to buy organic produce, and to care about sustainability – it’s still considered to be ‘different’ here in New Zealand, in contrast to Australia where it’s almost becoming the norm.

It’s fantastic to see a generation of people who already are and who will continue to bring back this wholesome living, normalizing it – and whilst there is so much negative change happening in the world, what better time to change fundamental attitudes and beliefs around environmental and social sustainability.
